Differences between full and light gateways

Dear Crankksters,

Welcome to day two of our exciting week of announcements. Today we are going to show you our list of all supported gateways that can be added to the BETA. Of course, this is just the beginning of our journey and it will expand in the future.

The Crankk network supports two types of gateways: full and light. Understanding the differences between them is essential for anyone looking to use our network in their IoT projects.

Full Gateways

Full gateways are powerful devices that have enough resources to support the Crankk network’s custom software. This means that the software can be installed and managed without any issues.

Full gateways can provide Proof-of-Network-Participation (PoNP) and Consensus nodes in the BETA group. More detailed information and instructions on this on April 7th 2023.

According to our plans for the near future, full gateways will support Oracle, Bluetooth (BLE/BLZ), Wi-Fi, and CDN nodes.

Full gateways will have access to both of our Dashboards: User (public) and Local Dashboard.

Full gateways are capable of running complex smart contract clients, executing complex transactions and supporting various cryptographic functions. These capabilities make full gateways ideal for projects that require high-performance devices, such as large-scale IoT deployments.

Here is the list of all full gateways currently supported by the Crankk network:

• Controllino V1

• COTX-X3

• Heltec Indoor

• MNTD by RAKwireless

• Nebra Indoor (Raspberry Pi)

• Nebra Indoor (ROCK Pi)

• Nebra Outdoor (Raspberry Pi)

• Panther X1

• Patnher X2

• PISCES-P100

• RAK V2

• SenseCAP M1

Light gateways

Light gateways, on the other hand, are devices that require additional help to run the Crankk network’s custom software. These devices can’t manage the software on their own or do not have sufficient resources to handle it. As a result, light gateways require the use of additional servers that can do the important work for them. In this case the Crankk network’s software is installed on our cloud infrastructure.

Light gateways can provide Proof-of-Network-Participation (PoNP) and Consensus nodes in the BETA group, so there is no difference to the full gateways.

According to our plans for the near future, light gateways will support also Oracle nodes, but no Bluetooth (BLE/BLZ), Wi-Fi, and CDN nodes.

Light gateways will have access to our User (public) Dashboard. However, they can’t support our Local Dashboard feature, as they can’t be managed by our platform.

Here is the list of all light gateways currently supported by the Crankk network:

• Browan MerryIoT

• COTX-X1

• Dragino LPS8 Indoor

• MatchX M2 Pro

• Milesight UG65

So that’s all for today! In case you’ve missed our first mailing, you can read it on our Discord server as well as in the BETA Section on our website.
